How I manage work, Rupert, and running a business

The short answer is I don’t!

But there are a few things that I do that make the days easier…

I schedule posts

One of the things I prioritise with Jockey and Jill is being present on social media, I struggle to think of things every day so when I have a creative burst, or there are some milestones or events coming up I make sure that I schedule the posts as I think of them.

I bulk buy

When it comes to Rupert, I find that time is more valuable than the money. I’m by no means made of money, but if something will make my life easier, I want it. I bed on wood pellets as I find these the most time efficient in the winter when I’m mucking out. It actually works out quite cost efficient, the only problem is the initial outlay.

To Do List for my horse and business

I desperately try to keep on top of things at work

Sometimes this is out of my control, but I’m lucky enough to be able to do overtime, so sometimes I will work late in to the evening just to make sure that the job gets done, but also that I have time later on free.

I keep on top of everything

This may not be the healthiest habit to have, but I live my life as if I won’t be able to do it the next day. For example, I poo pick every day, that’s not because he fills a barrow a day, but because if I cant do it the next day, I don’t have LOADS extra when I go back. I do this with a lot of aspects of my life.

To do lists

Again, I take this to the extreme, but I keep a to do list, this has everything on it that I want to achieve for the week. It helps me remember all the things that need to be done, and means that if I get a minute, I can find something on there to do.

Everything goes in the diary

Whether it’s a 10-minute task or a whole day, I put it in my diary. If it’s not in there I probably won’t remember it. EVERYTHING goes in there! I use the ‘she loves to plan’ diaries as these have spaces for what content I’m posting, spaces to fill in stats from Jockey and Jill and it breaks each day down to the hour so I can see where I’ll be and when.

Daily diary for running a business and a horse

As equestrians we all have busy schedules and it’s about making time to do the things that we enjoy, and not just the things we have to do. One piece of advice though, surround yourself with people who will be willing to lend you a hand if you need it, and remember to give yourself time to do the enjoyable things, sometimes you have to take a step back to take two forward.
